My psychotherapy practice is guided by theories of attachment, affective neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, traumatic stress, and historical trauma, and incorporates political factors and existential and spiritual questions.
I completed Level I EMDR training at the Trauma Specialists of Maryland in December 2019 and continue to receive advanced supervision and training toward certification in this modality. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy enables the brain to appropriately process and store emotionally significant memories and internalized beliefs contributing to present-day disturbance and self-protective adaptations. The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) has more information on this method, as does this New York Times Q&A with originator Dr. Francine Shapiro. My psychotherapy also incorporates the frameworks and tenets of Emotionally Focused Therapy (Sue Johnson), Ego State Therapy (Robin Shapiro and others), Internal Family Systems/parts work (Richard Schwartz and others), and Liberation-Focused Therapy (Ignacio Martín-Baró, Shawna Murray-Browne and others). I am a student and teacher of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot cards.
I am a licensed social worker in the state of Maryland. Please visit and contact me through my Psychology Today listing (www.rebeccaarmendariz.com) for information about my fees, the insurance carriers I accept, my availability, and my business policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal No Surprises Act, and other circumstances and regulations.
